PathSelectionEdit can call the openDialogInitialDir from qt_ui_utils, which already does the right thing depending on the pref setting and returns a QString. This allows removing the dependency on prefs from the widget. Add stdint.h to util.h as part of include what you use. (PathSelectionEdit wouldn't compile after removing the prefs header due to this.)
